The summer holidays so far…

After a successful end of term of which I achieved a Headmasters Award for HTML Coding for the IBM Website Challenge, I am now resting and relaxing awaiting the beginning of a mew term. Before the new term begins, I will be going on holiday to Great Yarmouth for one week, I have stayed at my aunie’s in Staines (And only just got back home) and I have been to Hayling Fair and met up with some old friends.

On the computer front I have been mostly playing games.

In other news, dad has bricked his brand new Xperia Arc S, which was brought from the internet (Greek phones are not servicable in the U.K.) and is now being sent to Kowloon. Lesson to be learnt: not to buy off the net from foreign places.

LeeMachines!

Despite several hours of troubleshooting and component swapouts it was not possible to revive the PC so I came to the conclusion that the motherboard was at fault. I swapped out of the motherboard and as you can see below the PC now works.

Now, where’s my LeeMachines logo?

My word of advice to all you smartphone users out there.

Don’t ‘drop’ it on the floor, accidentally or deliberately. Doesn’t end well, and in my case it ended with me getting the bus to the Havant market and getting a new one. Costed me £30.

Honesly though, that phone was a huge pain to use and it had that coming – Not the point though!

Android 4.0

I quite like Android 4.0 and would love it more if Google had full support for the android x86 project. I use android x86 myself and quite like it but some Google apps (YouTube, play movies, Google chrome) don’t support it. Anyone else out there who uses android x86? Let me know in the comments!

Apple iPad 3

Is it worth upgrading from your iPad 2? I don’t think it is, even though it does have a nice screen. Honestly? A waste of money.

First week at Brit-Net

To summarise my first week of two at Brit-Net I think that I have learned a lot more than I have expected, such as PHP, some more HTML and CSS. I have also learned some Javascript.

I learned how to set up a WordPress blog/site on a domain and how to administrate it.

An example of some of the skills I have learned is the modifications I have made to this website during my first week for example the “More” menu that opens the widgets panel and the “Contact” button that opens a contact form that emails my address. The animations are controlled by a JavaScript programming library called jQuery. Another example of my skills is when you scroll down the page the menu bar follows the page down only after you scroll a certain distance down the page. That is done by CSS changes in how the browser positions the <div> and <nav> tag on the page.

New Website Theme

I’m working on a theme for the website and will continue to develop it for this website during my work experience period, and will also develop it after my two weeks here.
